Writings Excerpts

"Anatomy of Stress"

("Psychologists recognize that maladaptive stress may be induced by a combination of factors, including emotional, cognitive, behavioral, and biological sources. From a Cognitive perspective, maladaptive (negative)stress is produced a result of a negative 'cognitive appraisal' of a situation, an object, or a person. The term cognition refers to one's perceptions, thoughts, mental processes, and interpretations of a situation, an event, or a person. If any or all of these are perceived by the individual as stressful or stress-inducing, then the individual may tend to develop negative cognitions leading to maladaptive behaviors characterized by symptoms of maladaptive stress, that is, the negative thoughts, perceptions, and cognitions perceived and the incoming information processed from the surrounding environment, other individuals, events, objects, etc. become interpreted as 'alarming' and 'threatening' to the individual, which may result in many of the symptoms of maladaptive stress.")

"The Psychology of Romance"

("When an intimate relationship proceeds and progresses, and when the romantic partners become more realistic and honest with their expectations of each other, this becomes, the point at which they begin to notice that romance and romantic behavior tend to fade out in their relationship. Thus, the further we proceed in an intimate/ romantic relationship, on average, we will notice a decline or a fading out of the romance and the romantic behavior itself. Keep in mind, however, that there may be individual variations to this pattern, across all relationships.")
